Desert Winds Community Church - Kid's Quest/Breakout Groups

	What is Kid’s Quest and Breakout? Kid’s Quest and Breakout are small groups for kids to better prepare our children to be devoted followers of Jesus Christ. Kid’s Quest is for children Pre-Kindergarten through grade two. Breakout is for children grades 3 – 6. Both programs meet Wenesday nights here at Desert Winds Church from Sept to June at 6:30pm. There will be a special accelerated class for our 6th graders to allow them to finish the 4 year program in one year. If they commit and complete the class they will be eligible for a missions trip the summer before they begin Jr. High.
	What is Kid’s Quest? Kid’s Quest is a midweek, small group program for children Pre-K through grade two. This program takes children through the Bible, starting in the beginning of the Old Testament and finishing at the end of the New Testament. Each week children learn a new story and focus on a life value. The class goes through the story, using critical thinking skills to solidify the information presented. Children also complete a craft and participate in a game which reinforces the story and value for that week. Leaders teach children the importance of prayer through taking prayer requests and praying out loud in the group. Each week children complete homework with their parents on the lesson taught in class that previous week. The program is designed to teach children spiritual habits that will stay with them throughout their lives. The small group leaders build relationships with each child, communicate with them each week and pray for them. Our goal is to build into children and provide them with a strong spiritual foundation so they can grow into mature followers of Christ. Kid’s Quest Book Breakdown: Book 1 -Discovering God’s Word – Children discover God’s Word by focusing on the first half of the Old Testament. They start with the story of the Garden of Eden and end the year with the story of Samuel. Book 2 -Discovering God’s Plan – Children discover God’s Plan by focusing on the second half of the Old Testament. They start with the story of David and end with the story of Jonah. Book 3 -Discovering God’s Son – Children discover God’s Son by focusing on the first half of the New Testament. They start with the story of The Angel and Mary and end with Jesus Feeding the Crowd. Book 4 -Discovering God’s Will – Children discover God’s Will by focusing econd half of the New Testament. They start with the story of Jesus’ Ministry and end with the story of Paul shipwrecked on the island of Malta.
	What is Breakout? Breakout is designed to guide students, grades three through six, toward spiritual maturity in a small group setting. The areas of growth covered in Breakout are Knowing Christ, Growing in Christ, Serving Christ, and Sharing Christ. Students work through one book each season in their small group, where they are encouraged to develop relationships with their leaders and accountability with other students. Each student begins in the first book, entitled “Break In,” and will advance to the next book the following season. Before coming to Breakout each week, students are expected to complete their lesson at home. Our goal in Breakout is to see students learn about Christ, and develop a desire to further their walk through serving in ministry and sharing Christ on their mission field Breakout Book Break down: Break In ( first book) –Book one focuses on Knowing Christ and is entitled "Break In, How to Know Christ." Students learn and discuss topics such as salvation, baptism and communion. Students are encouraged to develop a solid relationship with Christ. Break Through (second book) – Book two focuses on Growing In Christ and is entitled "Break Through, How to Grow in Christ." Each student will grow in the wisdom and understanding of who Christ is, while learning and discussing topics such as fellowship, giving and worship. Students are encouraged to memorize the books of the Bible in order. Break Away (third book) – Book three is about serving Christ and is entitled "Break Away, How to Serve Christ." Students discover their S.H.A.P.E. (through Personality and Spiritual Gifts tests) and learn how they can best use the gifts God has given them. Students are encouraged to get involved in a ministry. Students also spend the last half of this book going through the book of John by having daily quiet times opposed to one lesson for the week. S. piritual gifts H. eart A. bilities P. ersonality E. xperiences Break Out ( fourth book) – The fourth book focuses on Sharing Christ and is entitled "Break Out, How to Share Christ." Each student will have the opportunity to learn and discuss topics such as evangelism, service and missions. Students write and teach their own lesson within their small group as well as prepare and deliver their personal testimony. After they complete the book they apply what they have learned over the past four books and go on a missions trip.
	How much does it cost for my child to be in Kid’s Quest or Breakout? Cost: $40.00 per child. The cost includes a Kid’s Quest or Breakout workbook, and t-shirt. If anyone has a financial need that would not allow their child to participate, Please contact Miss Pam or Miss Mary Jo for scholarship information. How do I get my child involved? The 2006 – 2007 season has beguN! To get your child involved fill out a registration form and turn in to Miss Pam or Mary Jo with payment.
